南京大学物理学院教授、博士生导师,全国高等学校光学教学研究会副理事长、江苏省物理学学会原子分子物理与光学专业委员会主任。1983年和1986年分别获得南京大学学士和硕士学位,1995年获得日本筑波大学博士学位,1999-2000年在德国Eralngen大学光学研究所访问研究。主要从事信息光子学方面的研究,主持多项国家和省部级科研项目。

主要从事信息光学和光子学的研究。
运用理论分析、数值模拟和光学实验等手段,开展特殊光场的传播特性、空域参量(振幅、相位、偏振等)的调控、光场信息的表征和测量、光场信息的应用等方面的研究工作。
研究兴趣包括:光场调控;光学微操纵;光学显微成像;光学干涉测量理论与技术;衍射光学与数字全息等。
