Title: Atomic dark matter: direct detection, self interaction and the 3.5 keV X-ray excess

Abstract:
I will discuss the atomic dark matter models in which dark matter is a bound state atom of two fundamental fermions in the hidden sector. The binding force of the dark atom is mediated by a new gauge boson in the hidden sector. A generic kinetic mixing term between the hidden gauge boson and photon can be added to detect the atomic dark matter in the underground labs. Various experimental constraints on the atomic dark matter will also be discussed. Due to its composite structure, the atomic dark matter can naturally generate a rather large self interaction cross section, which is ideally suited to solving the small scale puzzles. The internal structure of the dark atom, such as hyperfine transitions, is capable of explaining the recent 3.5 keV X-ray excess observed by the XMM-Newton X-ray observatory.
